In the Dumps

The 2009 Toronto garbage strike and how it compares to Winnipeg's Autobin trash removal system.
/
There are two sections in Winnipeg, the nice clean part, and the not so clean part. The clean part enjoys a regular type of garbage pickup, as done with a truck equipped with a driver and two men. The not so clean part uses the Autobin trash pickup system. An Autobin truck only has the driver, and a mechanical arm to pick up the Autobin trash bin. autobin trash bin burned by arson This is supposed to save on salaries, but the problem is there are not enough pickups. The Autobins overflow, and when they do, the Autobin driver does not pick up the extra trash. Each Autobin trash bin services several homes. So they stick these in the back lanes. Which means that some poor resident will get the smelly, messy thing in their back yard. And by the way, if they put an Autobin right next to your garage, don't keep anything of value in there, since the garage will probably burn down when the Autobin is lit up. By the way, the two images in the comic come from the City of Winnipeg official web site. I don't think they had any problems finding examples of scary Autobins.

A picture of my pet rats. ⇐ This is my desktop picture at the office.

Their names are Spitzer and Sputnik.

Looking at them reduces my stress and helps me be in my "happy place".
